Although the growing number of homeless people in the United States is worrying, many people still don’t know how to help them out.
This tearjerking moment that happened at a restaurant will hopefully make you realize that a small act of kindness can go a long way!
On this particular day, a woman named Carmen Mendez was eating at the Raising Cane’s with her boyfriend.
While she was eating, Carmen noticed a homeless woman entering the restaurant. Quietly, this homeless woman approached the customers, asking them a question.
At that time, Carmen had no idea that she’d see something so heartbreaking.

What happened at the restaurant was so memorable that she decided to write about it on Facebook:
“A couple of days ago, we went to eat late at night at Raising Cane’s and as we waited for our order, I saw this homeless lady walk in, asking people that were throwing away their leftovers if she could have them.”
However, no one said yes.
Everyone ignored her and threw their food away, which broke Carmen’s heart. So, Carmen told her boyfriend that she was going to give her food to the homeless woman.
She wrote, “I looked for her as we were getting ready to leave and couldn’t find her. I felt sad knowing all the rejection she had that night searching for a warm meal.”
As she was getting ready to leave, though, the homeless woman finally showed up. Then, she asked the same question that she had been asking to all the customers at the restaurant.

When she heard her, Carmen immediately turned around and gladly handed the leftovers over.
But, it’s what she did afterwards that made the homeless woman break down in tears.
“I felt like a horrible human being, feeding her my leftover chicken strip.. she deserved so much more. So I bought her a whole meal,” wrote Carmen.
When Carmen brought the food, the homeless woman saw it and hugged Carmen – expressing deep gratitude.
Tears were flowing down her cheeks.
Recalling this powerful moment, Carmen wrote, “that hug she gave me was like a hug I had never felt.. those tears she shed were felt deep in my heart. I held her tight and let her let it out.”
Not surprisingly, this heartwarming post has been shared more than 90,000 times, melting hearts worldwide.
As you can see, it doesn’t take a lot to show kindness and generosity towards those in need.
