Popular Energy Drink Banned After Man Complains It Leaves Him With An Interesting Condition


An energy drink has been banned by authorities after a man was left with a constant erection after drinking it.

The beverage in question is Power Natural High Energy Drink SX. It was not marketed as a sexual aid but it contains sildenafil citrate, which is an active ingredient in Viagra.

It was discovered by Ugandan health authorities, causing the beverage’s popularity to increase.

Despite the ban, many supermarkets and street vendors still sell the drink. The label on it promises to increase libido, revitalize the mind and body, and it is also an ‘aphrodisiac’.

Revin Zambia who produced the energy drink hasn’t said anything on the ban.

The company’s general manager, Vikas Kapoor, told the BBC that to the best of his knowledge the beverage didn’t contain any drugs.

However, tests results showed the drink has Sildenafil Citrate.

“Results from both Zimbabwe and South Africa correlated with those obtained from the Foods and Drugs Laboratory that indicated a positive presence of Sildenafil Citrate,” Zambian Authorities told Reuters.

The head of the Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia Jerome Kanyika also said it was “a welcome move but also an embarrassment to us as a country because we had to rely on investigations by other countries.”

The energy drink is exported to other countries such as Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Uganda.

But the levels of sildenafil citrate found in samples ranged from 68.5 mg to 71.3 mg per 250 ml.

“The Ndola City Council has also suspended the production of Natural Power SX Energy Drink until remedial measures are put in place to the satisfaction of all the mentioned regulatory authorities,” the statement said.

Sildenafil, used to treat erectile dysfunction, “should only be taken upon recommendation by a medical doctor.”

Sildenafil has been linked to skin cancer, vision problems, and loss of hearing. As many as 1 in 10 people, side effects include blurred eyesight, skin flushes, and dizziness.
