An engaged couple was slapped with a hefty fine after sharing a kiss in public.
The incident took place in Milan, Italy, where a 40-year-old Italian man and his Polish fiancée were fined nearly $465 after removing their face masks to share a kiss while walking down the street.
According to the reports, the couple was questioned about their actions despite showing the officers pictures and videos as proof that they are really engaged and that they’ve known each other for a long time.
After the lovers, who were deemed suspicious by the police due to having different registered addresses, were identified by the police, they were handed a hefty $465 fine for allegedly breaking coronavirus guidelines.
While the couple insisted that they shared the kiss when no one was around them, Libero reported that they were fined over an alleged breach of rules that dictate that people have to wear face masks while they are one meter or less away from each other.
The law, however, does not mandate people who live together to wear face masks while in public and within one meter of each other.
The bizarre fine follows shortly after the city of Rimini shared footage of their crackdown on a man who was sunbathing while lying on a beach alone.
To track the man down, the police used a drone to survey the beach. They then deployed police officers on quad bikes and a car to surround the sunbather and fine him.
After the local government shared the footage on social media, the video has sparked a backlash whereas some people suggested that the man was clearly socially distancing and that the authorities were going too far to enforce the rules.
