Scientists have discovered a proof that states how 2,000 years ago, an enormous blast of eruption from Sun had hit our planet where we have Greenland now.
The incident that happened thousands of years ago still has strong implications on the present as this solar system blast can conveniently disrupt the modern technology in no time.
A team of dedicated scientists working in Greenland found evidence of the eruption in the ice cores which the earth had been bombarded by the Sun back in 660BC as particles of solar proton have been found.
The event that happened thousands of years ago, before humans were able to develop modern technology, was 10 times powerful as compared to any of our instruments can record.
The type of solar radiation that has been discovered in Greenland’s ice cores is called (SPE)- solar proton event . If the same particles that had hit Earth so long ago, hit the modern technologies in satellites then the electronics like GPS would instantly go out of use and no communication would be possible with them.
The radiation is not only harmful to the electronics but it can cause great health risks for the astronauts and people flying in the high altitude flights. Other radiations can shut down our electric grids too.
Lund University’s Raimund Muscheler, from Sweden, said, “There are many high-energy solar proton events or we can say solar energetic particles. These are the particles with high energy which directly hit the Earth and produce the particles that we measure,”
He added “Lower energy particles are also in connection to this which usually come in 1 to 4 days to the Earth. These low energy particles lead to geomagnetic storms.”
“These two kinds of particle events might not always occur at the same time. Modern instrumental monitoring data extends back about 60 years. So detecting an event in 660BC which is an order of magnitude that is greater than anything noticed in modern times suggests that we haven’t recognized how powerful these kind of events can be.”
Although there is no sign of the event in people who are living in the present era but if there was, it would have prominently shown up in people from lower altitudes.
