A doctor has been suspended after ridiculing the lifeless body of a dead woman by asking another doctor how to do ‘Muslim autopsy’ before holding the woman’s neck and making wailing sounds.
Following her cruel ‘jokes,’ Dr. Sandra Thomas, who works as Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s associate medical examiner, got suspended for two weeks.
According to the reports, Dr. Thomas asked a fellow doctor how to perform ‘Muslim autopsy’ before playing with the body of a dead woman and ululating.
Ululation consists of making wailing, howling sounds and is often practiced during ceremonies in Middle Eastern countries.
After the first doctor didn’t found Thomas’ remarks funny, the doctor allegedly attempted to impress another doctor by repeating the ‘joke.’
While the identity of the deceased woman remains a mystery, it was revealed that the woman wasn’t a Muslim.
The incident was reported to the internal affairs by Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jonathan Eisenstat who slammed Thomas for her actions.
“Your comments were extremely unprofessional, disrespectful and insensitive to those around you,” agency director Vic Reynolds said in a letter to Thomas.
While the doctor admitted regretting her joke, she claimed that she learned of it while she was working in Richmond, Virginia. As she added, it wasn’t her intention to disparage Muslims.
Following the hearing, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation suspended Thomas for two weeks and forced her to sign papers in which she acknowledged that another unfitting action will result in an immediate termination of her contract.
According to the GBI disciplinary records, another incident involving improper handling of dead bodies took place at the morgue in 2018.
In that case, the examiner was fired for taking a selfie with a severed head of a senior who got murder in an attack.
