An extremely rare moment was captured on cameras in HD recently, which is pretty exciting.
The footage of the endangered snow leopard was captured where he was calling out to the females in the wild.
This footage was shared by TWLF (The White Lion Foundation) after the leopard in northern Pakistan’s Karakoram Mountain walked past remote specialist field cameras.
In the video, one can see the beautiful snow leopard climbing down the rocks, then smelling around, and finally calling/roaring almost 11 times before wandering away.
Multiple high definition cameras have been installed to gather evidence for important scientific research and to monitor and track the population of wild snow leopards in the region.
TWLF’s Dr. John Knight said that it was extremely special and unusual to record such a high-quality video of a wild snow leopard calling in the wild.
This is because, by nature, these animals are solitary and elusive, and only come together to mate as well as raise young.
He added that the adult male leopard was roaring to establish his territory and to tell the females in the area know that he was there.
The director of TWLF, Shirley Galligan, said that to see such wonderful and unique footage of this rare beauty lifted the spirits of people in these crucial times.
He added that the charity was working day and night to ensure this exquisite species could continue wandering in freedom for numerous generations to come in the Karakorum Mountains.
TWLF is working with BWCDO (Baltistan Wildlife Conservation & Development Organisation) in partnership.
BWCDO posted the footage on Facebook writing that the times were tough but not as difficult as it was for a snow leopard to find his mate through screaming and urinating.
