The news comes as the company is put into deep controversy after whistleblower Frances Haugen’s documents were leaked publicly, further deepening the already scandalous situation.

However, sources mentioned how Facebook’s main flagship social media website, which was originally founded in the year 2004, will continue to keep using its name. Hence, this means ‘Meta’ which stands for metaverse, will be the company’s new parent name and will include social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, sources added.

Meta is currently creating new virtual reality spaces such as Horizon Worlds as a part of its brand new ‘metaverse’ too, mentioned reports.

At the moment, the burning question on so many people’s minds relates to whether or not the name has what it takes to shake off the growing amount of public relations nightmares that Facebook has witnessed in the past and continues to see today.
