More than ten years after separating, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver are finally divorced.
The two remained estranged for over a decade after Shriver filed for divorce on July 1, 2011, following shocking news that he fathered a child with their housekeeper.
The process of their divorce took more than 10 years because of a complex property settlement agreement and lack of motivation, TMZ reported.
According to The Blast, Schwarzenegger and Shriver had a net worth of more than $400 million but they had to divide it equally because they didn’t have a prenup.
The two managed to divide their fortune in half but the exact settlement is still confidential.
In June, the Hollywood actor filed a ‘declaration of discloser’ that indicates their case is finally ‘coming to an end.’
Sources told The Blast that he and the journalist were “trying to wrap things up and this is a good sign they are getting close.”
According to Farzad Law, a final declaration of disclosure must be exchanged between divorcing couple before they “can enter into a final agreement.”
The Terminator star reportedly fathered Joseph Baena with their housekeeper Mildred Patricia ‘Patty’ Baena.
Joseph was born on October 2, 1997, only a few days after Shriver gave birth to the former couple’s fourth child, Christopher.
But it wasn’t revealed that Joseph was his son until May of 2011.
Shriver was left devastated as she trusted and was friends with the maid, who had been working with them for many years.
When asked about Shriver filing for divorce in a 2017 interview with OBJECTified, Schwarzenegger said: “I do not need any time to reflect, when I know it was a major, major screw up.”
