A mother was inside a McDonald’s in Atlanta, Georgia, when she suddenly went into labor and gave birth to her baby girl.
Her fiancé and three McDonald’s employees were quick to act to help with the delivery.
Baby Nandi Ariyah Moremi Phillips was born healthy and was given the nickname ‘Little Nugget’ by her parents who described the ordeal as a ‘Thanksgiving blessing,’ according to 11Alive News.
It was on Wednesday around3am when Alandria Worthy started feeling contractions.
She initially thought that she would be ‘pushing for hours’ but by 7:30 am, her contractions became faster and stronger.
While driving to the hospital, about 45 minutes away from where they were staying, Worthy said that she had to go to the bathroom and they pulled up to the nearest McDonald’s.
But their quick bathroom stop suddenly changed into full blown labor as Worthy’s water broke. She started screaming from the bathroom: “I’m in labor. Somebody get the man in the car!”
General Manager Tunisia Woodward first thought that someone was pulling a prank but when she entered the bathroom to check, she saw Worthy lying on the toilet.
“I knew to tell my crew: We’re having a baby today,” Woodward said.
The manager and two other colleagues, Keisha Blue-Murray and Sha’querria Kaigler, suddenly transformed into nurses.
Worthy’s panicking fiancé, Deandra Philipps, ran inside the McDonald’s and found all three employees helping with the delivery.
“The ladies at McDonald’s were at her front side, holding her hands, I had her feet propped up on my knees. We told her to push three pushes,” Phillips said.
“I see her head! I see her head!” he screamed as he told Worthy to keep on pushing.
After three pushes, baby Nandi, also known as Little Nugget, was born.
“She popped out onto my hand,” Phillips said.
Steve Akinboro, the owner of the local McDonald’s, gifted his employees with a $250 gift card each as he was delighted by their quick thinking and actions.
“We don’t just serve food, we strive to serve feel-good moments every day, and this was in fact the epitome of a feel-good moment for my team,” Akinboro expressed.
“These three local Atlanta employees are a fantastic example of our crew making a difference for our customers and local communities.”
