It can be very difficult to keep your kids obedient especially when they are in their teenage years.

Some parents ground their children over bad behavior but one dad’s method has sparked a lengthy debate after he revealed that he banned his ‘rude’ daughter from studying.

Writing on Reddit, the father explained that his teenager was so rude and as a punishment, he told her that he wasn’t allowed to study.

“I have a daughter (16) who is unlike any teenager I’ve ever seen. The problem is she is extremely rude. I’ve tried many things to fix this but nothing works. I never had these problems with my other kids,” he wrote.

The dad also explained that he could simply tell his other children ‘no electronics for a week’ but it’s completely different for her daughter.

“She doesn’t care if I take away her electronics she just picks up a few novels and starts reading them. She will actually be glad if I ground her and use it as an excuse to avoid all our family gatherings like ‘oh we are going to aunties home tonight? I wish I could come but I’m grounded’ and then happily goes to her room.”

The father also explained that the only thing his daughter likes is studying.

“She will spend hours studying,” he added.

But after hearing the conversation between his wife and daughter, she decided to ban the 16-year-old from reading her books until she has ‘learned how to talk properly to her mom.’

People on Reddit were baffled by the dad’s approach, with one person suggesting: “Make her mow the lawn, or do her siblings chores on top of her own, or deep clean the fridge, or whatever creative thing you can give her to do that isn’t taking away from her intellectual development.”

Another commented: “Are we in a different universe? Why would you tell your kid she can’t study?”

A third said: “Taking growth and information away from a developing brain isn’t a good move.”
