Smokers Are Banned To Use Ashtray Bin At A Village Hall After A Family Of Blue Tits Made It Their Home


A family of nesting blue tits took over a village hall ashtray bin and now, smokers have been banned from using the village hall ashtray bin.

A wall-mounted ashtray bin outside Astley and Dunley village hall in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire has been taken over by a family of blue tits.

After 29-year-old Tammy Roote spotted the blue tits in the ashtray bin, a sign has been put to stop people from using the ashtray bin.

Tammy was attending a mother and toddler group at the Astley and Dunley village hall in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire when she heard tweeting.

It was coming from the wall-mounted ashtray bin outside Astley and Dunley village hall.

Tammy, who is a non-smoker, went to see the ashtray bin and found eight baby chicks and a mother bird.

She said she saw the mother bird going in and out with something in her mouth. There were two holes in the ashtray and she put her phone through the hole to capture them.

Tammy said: “There’s just one parent bird and while we were there, we saw her going in and out. She had something in her mouth but I’m not sure if it’s food or twigs for the nest.”

“There are two little holes in the ashtray. I just put my phone through the hole, I did not have to disturb them at all.”

“The sign is big enough to stop people putting anything in the ashtray. It was really sweet. You never get to see anything like that up close,’ Tammy added.

Smokers are now banned to put their discarded cigarette butts in the ashtray.

Tammy later shared the video of blue tits online that instantly went viral.
