A dog who was stolen from its home in Butte, Montana, was found 2,000 miles away in West Virginia.
After the poor boy named Zeus was traced, returning him to his home was a task harder than you can think.
Unfortunately, Zeus weighs 73 lbs. which made it impossible to transport him on a commercial flight. The only option left was to drive him back home by a 29-hour-long journey.
Cassandra, Zeus’s owner, could not do the road trip on her own and hence had to get the help of 30 strangers. Every one of the 30 people drove her dog a part of his way.
It was a process of four days to finally get Zeus to Cassandra.
The help was provided by volunteers of Many Paws Volunteer Transport Group. Kanawha Charleston Humane Association kept the track of the dog’s journey.
Jenn Robles, a volunteer from Many Paws Volunteer Transport, told WOWK-TV that she felt happy to be able to help and was excited about the happy ending of the story of Zeus and Cassandra.
Jenn said: “It’s wonderful. This is a great experience, a great opportunity to show the people and communities across the United States offering to help, jumping on this – to help reunite this dog with its family.”
Chelsea Staley, form the Kanawha Charleston Humane Association shed light on why the dog was found so far away from home. She said that the dog was taken by a ‘friend’ of his owner.
Chelsea said: “It seems Cassandra who is a single mom in Butte, Montana, allowed a family friend to come stay with her for a bit.
“The ‘friend’ basically robbed her blind, stole her wallet, a number of things while she was at work including her dog Zeus. The friend was apprehended in Nitro, and when he was arrested Zeus was still with him.”
The Kanawha Charleston Humane Association celebrated the reunion of Zeus with Cassandra with a video that they posted to their Facebook page.
The caption of the video read: “We’re so honored to be a part of his journey, and grateful for the volunteers nationwide who made this reunion possible!
“While Zeus’ journey is a heartwarming holiday story, it’s just a glimpse into what animal welfare organizations do 365 days per year, in order to save pets’ lives and reunite families.”
