A father was left feeling guilty after destroying his son’s artwork to teach him a lesson after the boy was rude to his sister.
As an anonymous dad-of-five revealed in his viral Reddit post, his 8-year-old son has long been picking on his 6-year-old sister.
According to the father, his son has been mean to his sibling ever since she was just a newborn baby. One day, however, he decided enough was enough after the 8-year-old destroyed the drawing his sister had made for him.
After seeing his son disrespect his younger sibling and tell the girl that her drawing meant nothing to him, the furious father went on to destroy his son’s artwork and tell him the exact same thing he had told his sister.
“He cried and ran to my wife. She told me I shouldn’t have done that and it’s different for a brother to be a jerk to their sister but I shouldn’t have stooped to his level – but I feel like it was a needed lesson and he wouldn’t do it again because now he knows how it feels,” the father said.
After asking the internet for advice on how to deal with his situation, the dad was quickly slammed and branded as an a**hole for acting like a child in front of his son.
“He was acting like a child because he IS a child. Why were you acting like a child?” someone wrote.
“You say the craft you broke was something that wasn’t sentimental and he didn’t work hard on but that’s through your eyes. He’s an eight year old and it’s probably a much bigger deal to him,” another added.
After receiving feedback, the father came up with an update in which he admitted he was in the wrong and revealed that he has since talked to his son about what had happened.
