As the distressed mother in question revealed in her viral Reddit post, she and her husband recently moved their son to a new school.

The 10-year-old, who suffers from anxiety, has since managed to make many friends and looked forward to inviting them to his upcoming birthday party.

His dreams, however, came to an abrupt end after the boy’s father angrily turned down the suggestion saying he doesn’t want any people he doesn’t know to be guests at his home.

“His 10th birthday is coming up and we want to host a party and invite people over. I met few mums of the kids that are friends with my son and who helped him with his anxiety big time,” the mother explained.

“My husband found out and said that he won’t allow any guests he doesn’t know personally to attend the party. I told him these women are my friends and their children are our son’s friends which means a lot. He said it’s better this way and that I should respect his decision.”

While the woman first defended her son’s wishes and suggested it was good for the boy to get to bond with his new friends, the father stood by his decision and accused his wife of challenging his “authority” and undermining him as a parent by not respecting his will.

“But he is my son too and having his friends there will strengthen his bond with them. I called him unreasonable which made him so upset he rushed out and refused to return my calls,” the woman added before revealing the husband eventually responded to her and accused her of being “disrespectful.”

After asking Reddit for advice, the mother quickly received lots of support with people condemning the boy’s father and failing to understand his motives.

“Is your husband often this controlling? If he’s taking a serious hard line stance here, maybe you can move the party to a nearby park or something,” someone wrote.

“Does your husband think his son’s birthday party is all about him? Not only is he being unreasonable, but he’s being thoughtless and childish,” another added.

The third suggested: “I’m starting to understand why your son has anxiety. The request is completely unreasonable. If he wants to personally know his son’s friends and their parents, the party is the perfect place to do that.”
