A woman has shared her frustration after her family ‘forced’ her to sit on the floor all Christmas day while they took their place on comfortable chairs and sofa.
Taking to Mumsnet, the unnamed woman expressed her frustration as she described how her family kept the seats to themselves and no one thought of her.
“Not sure if I’m overreacting but I just feel so hurt. When I spend Christmas Day at my parents there aren’t enough chairs in the living room for everyone,” she wrote.
“This year I was left sitting on the floor all day. I’d hoped when we all went back into the living room after Christmas lunch I might get the opportunity to sit on the sofa but everyone else took their seats where they were previously leaving me to sit on the floor again,” the post continued.
She also said that her aunt, sister and brother-in-law were all healthy and could also sit on the floor but “they kept the comfortable seats for themselves.”
The woman then asked if she was being unreasonable for feeling very disappointed on Christmas day.
Mumsnet users were quick to share their thoughts, with one person saying: “Why didn’t you say something? In my family I’d be like ‘oi time to swap seats sis.’”
Another said: “Isn’t the standard procedure in those circumstances to grab a dining chair and bring it into the living room?”
A third asked: “Why didn’t you speak up? You could have kicked your sister off the sofa.”
Someone else added: “Absolutely pathetic. I am in my 40s and happily sat on the floor in the lounge when lunch was over. My back was killing me but I was grateful I was with all my nearest and dearest.
“Many families would have been missing loved ones due to bereavement and I am sure they would have willingly sat on the floor just to have them back.”
