The bittersweet reality of losing a loved one is just unavoidable, so one family decided to bury their grandmother inside an M&M’s-themed casket to celebrate her life as well as her love for the candy characters.
Mary Esther Stocks Martin Gaily’s dying wish was to be buried inside a giant M&M, and her wish was granted as her family went on to take part in what their grandma loved.
Taking to TikTok to share photos of his grandmother’s funeral, Scott Roundtree captioned his heartbreaking post: “Grandma, my (heart), you can now rest peacefully. I love you.”
Scott added: “(P.S.) you were right we all loved your casket.”
The viral video showed Scott and his family gathering around their grandmother’s coffin while wearing candy-themed t-shirts and baseball caps.
They could be seen smiling as they remembered their beloved grandma.
The video has gained more than 1.3 million views in just 23 hours. In the comments section, one asked: “I think this is amazing. Can I ask why she chose an M&M casket? Rather it was just for enjoyment or a big reason?”
Scott replied: “My uncle made it by hand. And she designed it years ago. She loved how it turned out. It sat in her hour for years.”
Others also flooded the grandson with messages of support. One person wrote: “This is so special! My sister-in-law passed away in May 2022. She loved and collected M&M’s. I hope she and your grandma have met up in heaven.”
Another said: “Wow! Her casket is incredible!!! My condolences to you and your family and all her loved ones.”
A third added: “This was an amazing human being, I can tell.”
When someone asked if there were M&M’s inside the special casket, Scott replied: “Yes.”
