A man planted more than a million sunflowers on 80 acres of land as he wanted to surprise his wife for their 50th wedding anniversary.
Lee Wilson from Kansas secretly sowed sunflower seeds during the month of May with the help of his son as he wanted to prepare a memorable surprise for his wife of five decades.
“Well we’re celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary on August 10th and you know what’s a guy get his gal for the 50th? And I put a lot of thought into it and she always liked sunflowers,” Lee said.
“And I thought this is the year to plant sunflowers so I planted her 80 acres of sunflowers,” the doting husband added.
When Lee showed his wife, Renee, the heartwarming surprise, she couldn’t contain her emotions.
“It made me feel very special. It couldn’t have been a more perfect anniversary gift than a field of sunflowers,” she expressed.
Lee and Renee first met in high school when they were only 16. They had their first date at a FFA roller skating party in Harper Kansas.
“She couldn’t date until she was 16, and I called her on her 16th birthday and that’s when we started dating,” he recalled.
The have been together ever since.
One Twitter user commented: “Ladies, get you a man who will plant 1.2 MILLION (80 acres) of your favorite flower because you loved him in sickness and health, for richer or poorer, til death do you part!”
