A mother has expressed her anger after her husband told her to hide upstairs when she breastfeeds her baby as he doesn’t want her to do it in front of his family.
The woman took to Reddit and explained that her husband gave ‘one rule’ about breastfeeding – not to do it in front of his family. This meant that she has to go upstairs every time her little one is hungry.
“His family (mum, dad, and brother) are coming to visit on their way to vacation. He knows I want to try and breastfeed and he said his one ‘rule’ is to not BF in front of his family,” she wrote.
“He says he doesn’t want me to make his dad and bro uncomfortable and that I should go upstairs to feed our baby every time, every 1-3 hours.”
The woman said that her husband told her he would go up so he could also bond but her problem was that she was still in recovery and going upstairs every feeding can be very exhausting for her.
“I told him it’s about my recovery and bonding with the baby and his family can just leave the room or just NOT LOOK if they’re uncomfortable,” she continued.
The mother even suggested that she would wear a cover but she still needed to see her baby as she’s still learning.
However, her husband insisted that she must go upstairs so she just dropped the subject. “I need to bring it up again before then so we’re both on the same page but I don’t think he’ll have budged. Would I be in the wrong for telling him to f**k off?”
People on Reddit were quick to jump to her defense, with one person writing: You are FEEDING your CHILD in YOUR HOME. It’s not like you are throwing tassels on the girls and whipping them around in front of the family. You are feeding a child. If that makes them uncomfortable, they can step out or look away or just NOT come over.”
Another said: “Not to mention that breastfeeding can take quite a while. There is a good possibility she would have to be hiding upstairs for one hour every three hours.”
