A man has sparked a heated debate after revealing he told his wife he wanted to be paid for watching his own daughter when she’s gone.
As the 39-year-old man in question revealed in his viral Reddit post, he and his wife share a daughter, 10, with whom they live in a suburban house.
He went on to reveal that his partner is a huge fan of horror movies and that she’s always struggled because she had no one to watch the new frightening releases with due to her husband’s disdain for the genre.
Everything changed, however, when the couple met Walter – a neighbor and a single dad of two girls aged 12 and 14.
As the man explained, Walter and his wife started going out to the cinema together to see new movies while he stays behind to watch his daughter, Emily, and his neighbor’s youngest child.
“I prefer to just stay at home babysitting Emily and Walter’s daughter while they are in their cinephile reunions. Sometimes they go to movie theaters but other times they just stay at Walter’s place watching stuff at his home cinema. They usually have to go to another town in order to catch a specific function of some weird movie so it is normal for them to come back very late,” the father said.
“They eventually started doing stuff outside of watching movies, like going out for dinner. Walter invited all of us, including the kids, to go with him to a restaurant that a friend of him owned but I said no because it was too expensive.
“I don’t like that kind of places because I feel they are a waste of money and didn’t think the kids would enjoy it either. I insisted on staying with the kids and let the two of them go be themselves. This has become a regular thing and it is in a way a good deal for me because Walter pays for my wife’s dinner and she can’t no longer complain about me not taking her to fancy restaurants.”
The 39-year-old went on to reveal that he has grown “a little tired” of his wife and Walter’s “common” meetings and that he suggested to his wife and his neighbor that he should be paid for watching the children while she’s gone.
While Walter agreed to pay a fee for babysitting, his wife has since slammed him and accused him of trying to profit from watching his own child.
“She even gets mad every time I talk to her about this. Walter promised me that he will convince her but he does not seem to have been able to do so either,” he concluded.
Soon after the post went viral, internet users couldn’t help but call out the father for being naïve. As many pointed out, it was clear that his wife was already having an affair with Walter and that they were simply using him to make time for their dates.
“I’m sorry, but it looks like your wife has a new husband. And somehow you’re the babysitter. I kept reading thinking this must be a joke,” someone wrote.
“The ‘now I don’t have to take my wife out on a date to fancy restaurants’ really got me. Like you aren’t doing it, so you’re ok with some other guy doing it? Completely neglectful as a husband,” another said.
A third wrote: “They are definitely having an affair. This guy is totally blind.”
