A woman from Colorado reportedly faked her daughter’s illness as a means of scamming thousands of dollars from numerous well-renowned charities as well as well-wishers.
The mother has now pleaded guilty to the horrifying crime that took away a young and precious girl’s life in the end.
Local media reports revealed how 7-year-old Olivia Grant died under the most tragic circumstances in 2017 while suffering from a range of illnesses that her mother had created to make her appear terminally ill.
The mother named Kelly Turner initially pleaded not guilty for the crime but now has been termed guilty after substantial evidence provided her horrifying motive in the act.
In 2019, the mother was slapped with a total of 13 charges including first-degree murder, theft, child abuse, forgery, fraud of charity, and an attempted influence of a public servant.
Now, a team of lawyers has reached a plea deal with the court where she pleaded guilty to most of the offenses included child neglect and abuse, in exchange for her major charge of murder being dropped.
The mother was reportedly expected to face trial in a district court in Douglas County towards the start of February. But during the start of the week, she described the plea deal as a last-minute turn of ordeals.
Heartbreaking reports spoke about how the child saw nearly 1000 visits to the hospital during her lifetime as well as numerous hospitalizations as her mother did everything to portray her daughter as a terminally ill child.
Detectives following the case also spoke about how the mom got more than $500,000 in medical benefits as compensation for her daughter’s treatment.
In addition to that, a sum of $11,000 was raised by numerous charities like ‘Make a Wish Foundation’.
