A mother has revealed how others told her that she shouldn’t be a mother after she shared her parenting style.
26-year-old Zoe Wallace took to TikTok and revealed that she lets her children Dominic, 4, and Parker, 1, have unlimited screen time.
She also doesn’t set a bedtime for her sons, and her husband Dave, 40, agrees with her parenting technique.
But shortly after sharing her ‘controversial’ parenting style, she has been hit with negative remarks from trolls.
“I don’t have a set bedtime or bedtime routine for my children. I’ve never ‘laid down the law’ in this aspect with them,” Zoe said.
“I’ve always followed their flow and let them decide when they are tired and ready for bed. Some nights the kids can be flat out by 6.30pm, some nights it’s a little later.”
But Zoe said that her post has caused backlash and that most people assumed her children don’t get any sleep at all.
“Not enforcing a strict routine isn’t good for them, when in reality it works so much better for us,” she expressed.
The mother-of-two also explained that they never had problems when it comes to bedtime because her sons sleep early most evenings.
But Zoe also revealed that she and her husband let their children have unlimited screen time.
“They have access to the TV, YouTube, tablets and laptops,” she said.
“They have all the free access they would need (under parental guidance of course) but they still know their own limits.”
She explained that screen time helped her children’s reading and talking because “a lot of things on children’s tablets or kids’ YouTube is educational.”
Zoe also said that YouTube is a great resource that she won’t take from her children.
Many parents were quick to share their thoughts, with one person writing: “Why don’t parents be parents instead of fobbing them off with digital screens ect, I mean for a start the kids are going to need glasses by the time they’re 10 or even before, don’t they care about damaging their eyesight.”
Another said: “If they have no limits as children then when they grow up they will come to believe they can do anything regardless of the rules or law.”
