A family raided a morgue and stole the body of their relative in an attempt to stop it from being burned.
Following the death of 69-year-old Argentina-based Ramon Juarez, the Juarez family was told that the man’s body would have to be cremated due to coronavirus fears.
Outraged by the officials’ decision, some twenty relatives stormed the morgue in Tartagal in an attempt to stop the senior’s body from being “burned like a dog.”
In the footage taken by one of the witnesses, several family members are seen carrying Ramon’s remains before placing the body at the back of their pick-up truck and driving off.
Following the raid on the morgue, the hospital officials have launched a formal complaint against the family whereas the prosecutors reportedly kicked off an investigation into the matter.
As of recent reports, the location of the corpse taken from the morgue remains unknown.
Defending the family’s actions, Ramon’s daughter Daniela claimed that her father had died of a heart attack and not COVID-19 as the hospital allegedly made it appear.
“For the hospital everything is Covid. If my father had had that, at least one of our family would be infected but no-one is,” Daniela expressed.
“We were told we weren’t going to be given his body to pay our last respects because he had Covid. That’s just not true because he had a cardiac arrhythmia.
“They only wanted to let me have five minutes with him before they burned him like a dog.”
As the heartbroken daughter added, they decided to storm the morgue and steal Ramon’s body after their protests outside the place were ignored.
“When we got my dad back home, we broke the bag he was in, bathed him as was fitting, changed him and left him like a prince and now he’s on a stretcher in the house,” Daniela said.
Later on, the family also confirmed that the 69-year-old was buried at a secret location.
After the incident went viral, the hospital insisted that Ramon’s case had to be linked to “Covid until we can prove the opposite.”
“The patient was admitted with a heart problem which was treated and returned to hospital the following day after his situation worsened and he started suffering breathing problems,” Juan Ramon Lopez, the hospital’s director, said.
“Those breathing problems led to a fatal heart attack but the protocol that is now in place is that in such cases we also have to link this clinical situation with Covid until we can prove the opposite.
“The death certificate said the cause of death could be Covid-19 and his family wanted us to change that and put something else.”
While the director claimed to have sympathy for the family because he too allegedly lost friends during the pandemic, he insisted that they “acted like hooligans” and that their attitude “wasn’t one of pain, but one of violence.”
