A woman who recently gave birth to her firstborn has spoken out about the controversial name she chose for her little one.
23-year-old Isabella Veronica Hayes from Australia went viral on TikTok after revealing she had named her baby boy Holden Commodore.
As the mother explained, she believes that the name is really “cool” and that other people will likely follow suit and start copying her.
However, the name Commodore is banned in Australia because it is the same as the title of high-ranking naval officers.
In Australia, names of official titles and names considered offensive, insulting, humiliating, or intimidating are banned.
“He will be 1 very, very soon, and I do not regret it at all. I think Holden Commodore suits him perfectly,” Isabella said.
“I know that people are going to probably start copying me with the name because it’s so cool.”
As it happens, the 11-month-old baby boy also shares his name with a major car producer in the country.
Holden Commodore is a popular car in Australia where the model was produced between 1978 and 2020 by Holden which was formerly known as General Motors-Holden.
After the mother revealed her name choice on social media, plenty of users quickly expressed their disbelief and accused the mom of being irresponsible.
“U don’t regret it but Holden Commodore will,” someone wrote.
“I think it’s very selfish cuz you’re not considering the problems your son might have because of your decision when he grows up,” another said.
A third suggested: “Please change it while it’s easy, this isn’t going to age well.”
