A mother’s bank account was drained after her 7-year-old son spent her savings on a gaming app.
Kayla Howard is a single mom working two jobs to support her four children.
“It’s been a struggle. It’s been a challenge,” she expressed.
But those challenges can sometimes be eased by mobile phones.
“As you can see, they all like their devices,” Kayla said.
Her children’s favorite gaming app? Roblox. It is an online platform where users can play and develop games.
Users can also make purchases to get more games or upgrade their character.
But their ultimate source of fun has become a huge struggle when Kayla received a call from her bank and she was informed that her account over drafted.
It turned out that her son spent almost $900 on Roblox right before Christmas but when Kayla reached out to the Google store, they refunded her only $10.
Kayla said that the money was intended for their rent, upcoming festive celebrations, and also gifts.
The mother-of-four filed a claim with Roblox and the transactions are currently being investigated.
Kayla said that her son has autism and it was difficult for him to see the consequences of his actions. She also remained calm after the first phone call and wanted to stay focused as much as possible.
Gaming microtransactions are becoming widespread as video games today are not only games anymore but also a store where you can buy more upgrades or content.
Season passes are also popular with hit games like Fortnight and Coll of Duty using the system that adds a monthly subscription to the game to let a user enjoy additional features like character customization.
Hopefully the mother will get her money back so she can pay her rent and buy presents for her children!
