A woman has sparked a heated debate after revealing that she charges her family members for Christmas dinner.

63-year-old Caroline Duddridge from Cardiff, Wales, is hosting her family’s Christmas dinner for the sixth time in a row this year.

The family event, however, comes at a price not only for the grandmother but for everyone who wishes to eat at her table.

As Caroline revealed, she wants to teach her kids a very “important lesson” in financial responsibility by making them pay for their Christmas meals.

She further explained that her sons are charged nearly $20 per head while her daughters have a small discount because they have more family duties.

Caroline also charges her grandchildren who are older than five years around $7 per head while keeping the fee at $3 per grandchild below the age of five.

“I log into my bank account and check who has made their Christmas dinner payment in November. If you don’t pay by 1 December, you’re not coming,” she said in an interview with BBC 5 Live.

“The amount I charge for dinner includes electricity. It’s a no brainer for me… it’s the only way to go.”

Since her children have to pay her before she cooks, Caroline makes sure that she includes them in planning what foods and drinks will be served at the Christmas dinner.

Defending her decision – which she was allegedly forced to take after her expendable income was halved – the widow insisted sharing expenses for Christmas dinner is best for everyone involved.

“Obviously there were a few moans and grumbles saying ‘I’ve got a few children,’ but at the end of the day that’s not my problem really, is it?” she added.
