A mother and grandmother who raised eyebrows after revealing she charges her family for Christmas dinner has a fresh announcement for her relatives ahead of the holidays.
63-year-old Caroline Duddridge of Cardiff, Wales, sparked a controversial debate last year as she revealed she charges her three daughters and two sons for eating Christmas dinner at her place.
As she explained, her adult relatives, including her children, would be asked to pay around $20 per head. She added that the girls had to pay $6 less because they had part time jobs and family duties. Meanwhile, her grandchildren would have to contribute $3 each.
With the holidays once again at our doorstep, the grandma announced a price hike due to the rising costs of living.
“I have put the girls’ prices up (this year) by $2.50 because I did get a bit of stick from people saying I was being sexist – not that I listen to public opinion, particularly,” Caroline said.
She also insisted charging your family members for Christmas dinner was a “no brainer” that teaches the kids an “important lesson” in sharing the expenses.
“I’m not sure it will [cover the cost], because when you buy a few bits and pieces it comes to like $40 or $50 and it’s barely a bag full,” Caroline explained.
“This is not Christmas stuff either but just general shopping – it’s just horrifying and you wonder where it’s all going to end.”
And while not all of her children agree with her methods, Caroline managed to get her entire family together each Christmas.
“The amount I charge for dinner includes electricity. It’s a no brainer for me… it’s the only way to go,” she told the media last year.
