A single mother of 12 has been slammed online after she revealed that she forces her eldest daughter to pay for their nine-bedroom home.
Veronica Merritt did not want a small house for her big family but she could not afford a house big enough to accommodate all of them.
But when she saw a huge house for sale on Craigslist, she knew she had to do anything to buy it for her children.
The 37-year-old said that the house was only $20,000 because it was abandoned and had smoke, fire and water damage.
She wanted to purchase and fix the house so they could finally stop paying rent.
So her 23-year-old daughter decided to give her $10,000 so they could buy the nine-bedroom house.
While many were quick to criticize the mother for not being able to support her children, Veronica explained why she does not feel ‘guilty’ for getting her daughter’s money.
“Our nine-bedroom house was $20,000 and my daughter pitched in half,” she expressed.
“We combined our money to buy the house, but I paid her back in full a year later. My daughter now lives in the house completely rent-free and I take care of her.
“I cook for her, I clean, she sometimes helps with dishes, but this situation is completely beneficial to her.
“She never has to worry about paying for an apartment – she has a very large room, her own private bathroom, and she helped her family [get out of a bad situation].”
While some people slammed the mother, others were understanding and supportive of the family’s situation.
One person commented: “There are so many people who have the goal of buying their parents a house. She helped out and got paid back. What a blessing!”
Another wrote: “I absolutely think this was very smart of your daughter.”
A third said: “I love this! You’re all beyond blessed to have each other.”
