A young grandmother has spoken out and shared her joy after welcoming her first grandchild at the age of just 33.
Ruth Clayton is a 33-year-old mom and grandmom from the UK who welcomed her daughter, Rose, when she was just 15 back in 2005.
Making Ruth a very young grandmother, Rose then went on to welcome a baby of her own as soon as he turned 18.
Despite becoming a parent and grandparent at such a young age, Ruth says she couldn’t be any happier because she feels incredibly “lucky.”
“Once I knew Rose was serious about having this baby I was fully on board and so so excited. I met up with her boyfriend’s family. They were so amazing; they are the most amazing family,” the 33-year-old said.
“I was in tears watching her give birth – she was like a warrior. Seeing my daughter turn into an amazing mum is the best gift she could have given me.”
Ruth continued: “It was an amazing moment, Rose was so brave. To be a grandma at 33 means I will be around for such a long time. It is going to be amazing – I feel very lucky.”
The young grandma also revealed that she initially wanted to get an abortion after falling pregnant with Rose at the age of just 14. When she arrived at the abortion clinic, however, she realized that she couldn’t go through with the process after all.
Ruth has since called her decision to call off the abortion “the best decision” she’s ever made in her life.
“I arranged for an abortion but me and my friend got on the bus to Lincoln and I turned to her and said, ‘I can’t do it.’ It was the best decision ever. I still got my GCSEs, went to college and everything was fine,” she added.
While the grandmother admitted she felt upset and angry after finding out her daughter also fell pregnant at such a young age, she quickly came to terms with the situation and offered her support to Rose.
“When Cora was born it was the most amazing thing. Life is just the most amazing thing, I feel like my world has come full circle,” Ruth says.
“Cora is exactly like I was when I was a baby, she is extremely fussy and likes everything just so. It is a really exciting time as she has just started talking and she can now sit up.”
