But one mother was left furious when her mother-in-law took the gift she bought for her daughter and claimed it as her own.

Taking to Mumsnet, the mom explained that she had carefully picked out the gift for her 5-year-old a few months before her birthday.

But when she turned to her husband for support, he didn’t think it was important as to who got the credit.

She shared her frustration in a post to Mumsnet and explained that she bought a set of princess dolls months before her daughter’s birthday while her mother-in-law bought beige and brown-colored clothes.

The family agreed that the 5-year-old could open some gifts before school and others in the afternoon as her mother had to work night shift.

But she was left flabbergasted when she found out that her mother-in-law switched the gifts and her husband didn’t mind at all.

“(My daughter) got back from school SO excited to tell me about the princesses,” she wrote.

“I gave her the present from ‘us’ – i.e the clothes – which she opened, said thank you, and then went straight back to the princesses showing me how amazing they are etc.

“(Mother-in-law) sat and watched all this, randomly throwing in the odd ‘I knew you’d love them’ and ‘I saw them and thought of you.’”

People on Reddit were shocked by the mother-in-law’s actions, with one person commenting: “I’d be fuming!”
