A mother has sparked a lengthy debate after she took to TikTok and said that she will never leave her daughter alone with any male family members.
The mother-of-two, who goes under the username @theorganicmami on the social media platform, shared her ‘controversial’ ways to raise her daughter.
“No sleepovers, not even with family members. And she will never be left alone with a male. I don’t care if you’re the grandparent, the uncle or the cousin,” she said.
The mom explained that she won’t treat her daughter any differently to her son, and explained the importance of honesty with her relationship with her children.
“Secrets will not be kept from your parents. And if you’re one of those people now saying ‘I’ll give you candy when your mom’s not here, just don’t tell her’, that’s the quickest way to never see us again,” she went on.
She also said that she won’t push her children to accept certain things just because they are expected.
“She doesn’t have to kiss you, hug you, or sit on your lap just because you asked her to and because you’re a relative and haven’t seen her in a long time,” the mom said in the video.
The mother-of-two went on: “She doesn’t have to respect you if you don’t also respect her, as a child she still will have opinions and emotions and she is allowed to feel a certain way.”
She also shared her perspective when it comes to healthcare and education.
“We’re not going to do a public school system that makes you sit at a desk for eight hours and not learn anything you really care about,” she expressed.
“We will always use holistic methods before we resort to Western medicine, and I’m not going to force [my daughter] to share or finish her plate of food.”
While some people talked about the endless rules, others slammed the mother for limiting her kids when it comes to sleepovers, with one person commenting: “She won’t ever be allowed to have sleepovers with her friends? No judgement. Just those were some of my best childhood memories.”
Many understood why the mother enforced such rules.
One wrote: “We get sleepovers make childhood memories or kids will hate you for not letting them but they will thank you later. So many unfortunate stuff happen.”
Another said: “The no hugging thing! Thank you! I hated when my mom would force us to hug people I did not like. A lot of my relatives we’re [sic] mean to me as a child.”
