Mother Furious At Daughter’s School Over ‘Reward Trip’ That Parents Have To Pay For

Most parents are more than happy to pay for school trips as these are a good mix of fun and education.

But school trips without any educational value to reward students?

One mom was left furious after her child’s school decided to give students a ‘reward trip’ to a local shopping center.

“My child is in Year 7 and has a reward trip to a shopping center in a nearby city,” the mom wrote on Mumsnet.

“It’s a big one, tons of shops, cinema, crazy golf, arcades, and a food hall. The trip is to reward good behavior and they will be walking around unsupervised for the day.

“We as parents have to provide them with money to spend throughout the day. Most of them want to go to the cinema, then food and drinks on top, as well as spends for the shops/arcade.”

The mother is not a hundred percent sure about the ‘reward trip’ as she thinks parents shouldn’t have to fork out money just so the school can reward students for good behavior.

“When I was in school we got rewards for things like attendance, but it was something like a chocolate bar! My parents were never expected to fork out cash so ‘school’ could reward me,” she continued.

“Am I being unreasonable to think this is pretty poorly thought out by the school, especially with current times? I know a few parents have complained because they are already feeling the pinch and are now feeling pressure to magic up $$$ for this, and many are taking even around $50 with them!”

Other parents agreed and insisted the school should fund rewards they want to give good students.

“Yes it’s rubbish. It’s not a reward really and especially not for those who can’t afford the spending money. If the school wants to reward children then they pay or choose something free,” one parent said.

“That’s terrible and will exclude so many kids (awful timing too to suggest it now). My daughter’s school has reward trips but these tend to be to a zoo or other attraction so spending money is just $5 for sweets,” another wrote.
