While some people are fortunate enough to have harmonious relationships with their in-laws, others are just not lucky.
One woman has shared her tricky situation involving the mother of her husband, explaining that her mother-in-law keeps on crossing the line and can be very negative towards her and her husband.
Taking to Netmums, the woman wrote: “My mother-in-law doesn’t understand boundaries and can be negative at times towards my husband and others.”
“She kept being very intrusive and acting like our home was hers and overstaying her time a lot of the time,” the frustrated wife continued.
“After we got past the stage of her understanding boundaries she understood eventually but took a huff about it all and didn’t speak to us for weeks.”
The woman also said that her mother-in-law keeps on telling her to lose some weight and that her usual remarks leave her upset.
“Now I’m a lot more anxious as I am pregnant and baby is due soon,” she said, explaining that her mother-in-law lives only ten minutes away.
“I am dreading the unannounced visits in which I have stated to her to give notice when coming down as last time she appeared at our house she didn’t give us any notice.”
She also said that her baby is due in five weeks so she’s hoping that her mother-in-law would respect and understand them.
“A part of me is dreading the what if she keeps appearing at our house most days when baby is here and becomes intrusive again like I appreciate the help especially with having a new born but ideally notice would be great first in case I have made plans that day.”
Many Netmums users replied to the post, with one person commenting: “If she oversteps any mark that you aren’t comfortable with then leave her be for a couple of months. It’s your life, your children and therefore your rules. Enjoy her when she’s nice, back off when she isn’t.”
Another wrote: “With someone like this, the best thing to do is to identify what ways they use to involve themselves and make those ways no longer available to them.”
