A mother was left speechless after giving birth to a one-in-a-million set of twins.
29-year-old Chantelle Broughton was in for a big surprise when her twins, baby girl Azirah and baby son Ayon, joined her family back in April.
While Azirah has a dark complexion and brown eyes, her twin brother Ayon has a fair skin tone and green eyes.
The mother-of-three also explained that Azirah’s skin continued getting darker in the weeks following the birth while Ayon kept his light skin tone.
Chantelle has since spoken out and credited her and her husband’s lineage for her twins’ unique differences.
As she revealed, she appears white even though her grandfather from her mother’s side is Nigerian. Meanwhile, the twins’ father is half Jamaican half Scottish.
“I’m so glad they came out the way they are – our own unique little family,” the proud mom said.
“Azirah was slightly darker at birth but you couldn’t really tell. Now as weeks have gone on she has gotten to the point where she’s darker than her dad.”
Chantelle further insisted that the twins have completely different personalities but are growing very attached to each other.
“Every few weeks friends and family still say they can’t believe it. Azirah is really laid back and chilled, whereas Ayon was wants a lot more attention,” she added.
“He always wants to be rocked and is constantly babbling along. Azirah doesn’t do that very often. But I have noticed they are really staring at each other now and smiling more.”
The mother continued: “I think they will stay like this. I think their hair will be different too. Azirah will have thick and curly hair and Ayon’s will be completely different. You can already feel the difference in texture.”
As doctors previously suggested, such instances are very rare, with some estimates saying only one in a million sets of twins turns out to be like Azirah and Ayon.
