Picking a name for your baby can be exciting and daunting at the same time as you also want to consider what others would think about the moniker.
One mother has revealed that she named her daughter after a fairy tale character and even though the registrar initially refused and advised her to rethink her decision, she remained firm with her chosen name.
Speaking to The Sun, Daniella Shap described how the registrar shot her an odd look when she gave the form with her baby’s name.
“I explained the name was traditional and lovely and told her she needed to simply file our paperwork,” the 45-year-old mother said.
“I thought this should have been a fairy tale experience and yet it was becoming a nightmare.
“My daughter’s full name is Lola Cinderella. She was born on the stroke of midnight and is my little princess. I wasn’t changing her name for anyone.”
But when she filed her daughter’s name, the registrar checked whether the name Cinderella was ‘trademark.’
Fortunately, the General Register Office in the UK states that there are no restrictions on parents when it comes to choosing names for their little ones except when the name could be classified as offensive.
The mother-of-three was finally given the green light to use the name but admitted that it was more difficult to secure than giving birth.
She explained that when her third child was born at the stroke of midnight, she ‘immediately thought’ of Cinderella.
She said that many were shocked by the name but others ‘loved the name combination.’
