A dad-to-be has shared how people told him that the names he picked for his twins were cruel after he decided to name them after fictional characters.

The man took to Reddit and explained that he and his wife are expecting twins. He wants to name them after Harry Potter characters.

“So my wife is pregnant and we’re having twins. I suggested the names Fred and George if they are both boys and Lily and Molly for girls,” he wrote.

“My wife is okay with Lily and Molly since we both have multiple deceased relatives in extended families with those names and it would be honoring them first and book names later.

“But she called me an a**hole for wanting to name our kids after some book characters and would not discuss why. I honestly don’t understand her point of view, since it’s not on the nose like Krum, Filch, or Dumbledore.”

People on Reddit were left divided as many disagreed with his suggestion that George and Fred were ‘not on the nose.’

One person commented: “Do you really think that wouldn’t be obvious to literally everyone? Do you want them to spend their whole lives having people wince when they hear their names and express sympathy for how cringey their childhoods must have been? It’s absolutely on the nose.”

Another wrote: “You are being disingenuous about how the names aren’t on the nose. Every time your sons would be introduced together, they would have to deal with the painfully obvious realization that you named them after Harry Potter. They will be people that have embarrassing names when they’re together.”

A third added: “You do not want to burden your kids with names that are very recognizable from books or films. Also, Fred dies in the book, how do you think that will affect the kid you name Fred? Don’t live out your fantasies through your children.”
