A father and mother have made headlines after suing their own son for failing to provide them with a grandchild.
Sadhana and Sanjeev Prasad are a retired couple from India who have taken their only son, Shrey Saga, to court for the “mental agony” he caused them by failing to produce an heir.
As the couple insists, they spent a fortune on their son’s pilot training, a brand-new car, and his lavish wedding at a 5-star hotel in 2016. In hopes he would produce a child, the couple also sent him and his wife on honeymoon in Thailand.
Despite being married since 2016, however, Shrey failed to produce a child, prompting his parents to issue a bizarre ultimatum to either make a baby within a year or pay them $650,000.
As the couple argued in their lawsuit, they want the $325,000 they had spent on Shrey’s upbringing returned. They are also seeking an additional $325,000 in damages.
“We killed our dreams to raise him,” Sanjeev said in an interview with The National World.
“It is a dream of every parent to become a grandparent. We had been waiting for years to become grandparents.
“We had been trying to convince our son and his wife but they paid no heed to our demands. We are heartbroken that we will die without seeing [a] grandchild.”
In a submission to the court, Sanjeev added: “My son has been married for six years but they are still not planning a baby. At least if we have a grandchild to spend time with, our pain will become bearable.
“We also had to take a loan to build our house and now we are going through a lot of financial hardships. Mentally too we are quite disturbed because we are living alone.”
Ironically, the couple has accused their son of harassment and the incident has been classified as a ‘domestic violence’ case.
