One mother is revealing her utter devastation and heartbreak after her son’s giant birthmark began to grow and invade his brain.
For the past 11 years, the mother revealed how she’s become so accustomed to people just staring and pointing at her child because he looked a little different than all other children his age.
Isaac who hails from Peterborough was reportedly born with a giant port wine stain birthmark that covered nearly the entire left side of his face, body, as well as the head.
However, as years passed, the birthmark was proven to be more than just skin deep. As the little blood vessels responsible for the birthmark began to invade his brain as well.
Last year, his mother Louise made the painful decision to have the damaged side of her child’s brain ‘switched off’ as he underwent a complex operation that lasted nearly 10 hours.
The operation was done by surgeons in an effort to prevent seizures from occurring and affecting Isaac’s normal quality of life.
But now, after going through all that, the mother says she’s become so overly sensitive about her child and can’t stand it when people stare, point, or pass comments about his condition.
“I hope to raise as much awareness as possible about my child’s condition after we’ve endured a long time of stares and mean comments from strangers,” she revealed.
The mother also spoke about how she realizes that her child will always be a little different from other kids his age but that’s okay and it’s a reality that she’s learned to accept.
“When your child has literally been through a coma, you learn to accept the reality. Yes, he looks different and his birthmark is distinctive. But these days, I’m proud to explain his medical condition and health issues,” she added.
