A man has shared how he ditched his sister’s wedding after she told him that his stepdaughter would not be invited.
Taking to Reddit, the unnamed man explained that he has a biological daughter, 6, and a stepdaughter, 14.
“My sister has been planning her wedding. I’m the best man. She wanted my biological daughter to be her flower girl and our nephews are both involved.”
The father said that the bride and groom wanted a childfree wedding but made an exception for their nephews and nieces.
But when he found out that his stepdaughter was excluded, he was left fuming.
“I tried to talk to my sister about it, but it’s gone poorly,” he went on. “She thinks it’s fine, that my stepdaughter doesn’t have a role so there no reason to bring her, that she doesn’t want more children at the wedding, that she ‘barely knows’ her so it’s ‘not the same’ as my biological daughter.”
Thinking about how his stepdaughter would be alone at home while the rest of the family are at his sister’s big day, he decided that he would no longer be involved in the wedding.
“I told my sister that if she excludes her, my biological daughter and I won’t be coming. She’s furious about me not supporting her, losing the flower girl and best man and thinks I’m being selfish,” he continued.
People on Reddit were quick to share their thoughts on the matter and many were baffled by the bride’s way of thinking.
One person commented: “And presumably, no children is to ensure they’re aren’t screaming kids during the ceremony… Which I’m thinking a 14 year old kid sit quietly for a ceremony. You can choose not to attend.”
Another said: “No children’ is fine. ‘No children except nieces and nephews’ is fine but ‘no children except nieces and nephews but not including that one’ is ridiculously arbitrary and just plain nasty.”
