One couple is coming back home from war-torn Ukraine with a big smile on their face because they’ve managed to adopt a baby boy along the way.
Without a doubt, hearing grief-stricken stories coming out from Ukraine has become a norm in the past few weeks after Russia made the decision to invade Ukraine. However, this next story is sure to put a smile back on your face.
Meet Kelci and Theron Jagge who always wanted to adopt a new member into their world, for the past year.
After seeing little Ruslan’s picture on Instagram, the duo immediately fell in love and knew he was the one. But little did they know about the war that would soon break out.
Little Ruslan lived in an orphanage in Ukraine and was reportedly born with cerebral palsy as stated by FOX 4.
“We saw his image before we even made the decision to adopt him. We were like there is simply no better time than now and we did it”- the couple revealed with great excitement.
During the finalization of the adoption process, the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out and tensions were high.
But that did not stop this couple from getting their loved one out of the war turmoil, safe and sound, back to the US for a fresh start to his life.
“We received an email from the US embassy in Ukraine regarding his health. He was suffering from pneumonia and we knew that we had to get him out of there as quickly as possible”- they explained.
The couple knew that it was a race against time for them at this point and they managed to get their visa finalized at the last minute on Friday, moments before the embassy was forced to evacuate.
“We told them that he would die if they made us wait for 30 days and thankfully, it all fell into place”- they explained.
Today, little Ruslan is doing well and has found a loving family who is there by his side, giving him the love and care he deserves.
