A family was shocked to discover that several large snakes had been living in their home after the ceiling collapsed.
Harry Pugliese has been having nightmares about snakes ever since the ceiling in their rental home collapsed, leaving him, his wife Susan, and Susan’s 13-year-old daughter exposed to the reptiles.
As Mr Pugliese insisted, he had asked John Stafford, his landlord, to take action after discovering a leak earlier this year shortly after moving into the Lafayette home.
According to the family, the landlord never addressed the issue and the ceiling eventually caved in. To make the matters worse, Pugliese discovered that at least four giant rat snakes had been living in their ceiling for months.
After the family contacted Animal Control, they were asked to obtain permission from Stafford to get rid of the infestation, whereas the landlord allegedly “didn’t want to do nothing about it.”
As it happens, the news of a snake infestation came shortly after the family discovered the home was also infested with rats, cockroaches, and bees that made their home out of the building’s walls.
Following just days after the latest discovery, the Pugliese family was served an eviction notice – an act that Harry branded as backstabbing.
Meanwhile, Mr Stafford insisted that the family didn’t inform him about pest issues while claiming he had sent someone to repair the roof months ago. As Pugliese revealed, however, the roof work that was done didn’t properly address the issue but served merely as a temporary band-aid.
After realizing that the roof was still leaking, Pugliese presented his landlord with an ultimatum saying the family would stop paying rent until the roof is properly fixed and the pest issue is taken care of.
“He acts like he doesn’t care. He said: ‘Well, if there are snakes in the ceiling, they’ll be taking care of the rats,” Susan said of the family’s landlord.
While the family was served an eviction notice after their terrifying discovery, they’re glad they won’t have to sleep in Stafford’s home another night.
“I’m dreaming that a snake is going to fall on me. I can’t sleep. I couldn’t sleep last night because of the snakes,” Harry told WTVC as he and Susan revealed they would be staying with Susan’s family until they find themselves a new home.
