One of the exciting but also difficult decisions every parent has to make is choosing a name for their baby.
But one mother who was pregnant with twins has revealed that she was intending to give her daughters the same name, so she took to Mumsnet to ask other parents if it would be ‘weird.’
Shortly after sharing her post, she received lots of comments from other parents.
“Would it be weird to give both twin babies the same middle name? After a family member if that makes any difference,” the mom-to-be wrote.
She also explained that she would give her daughters different first names but their middle names would be the same.
However, other parents did not think it was a clever idea.
“Yeah, I’d say it’s a bit weird. Can you not find another family member to name the baby after?” one parent asked.
“I just think there are so many nice names in the world it’s nice to use different ones if you can. Some people do repeat middle names between siblings but I don’t really get it personally,” another wrote.
“I think it’s a bit weird either way, to be honest,” a third said.
But others thought it was not weird at all, with one person commenting: “Same middle name is fine – it’s an honour to a family member and hardly ever used!”
Another said: “I don’t think it’s odd. My friend and his brother and two sisters all had the same middle name. Nobody asks about middle name anyway.”
The pregnant mom replied to the comments section and explained: “I did wonder if it’s a bit weird myself, but I ask because not giving the name to both of them would mean one twin having two family names and the other not having any.
“So giving them both their own middle name followed by family name solves that, but I can’t decide if that’s still a bit much.”
