Friends and family of a 20-year-old man were stunned when a funeral immediately became a celebration of life.
Mohammad Furqan had been pronounced dead on July 1 but he was very much alive. According to the Times of India, he had been involved in an accident on June 21 on Sultapur Road.
Furqan was admitted to a private hospital where he stayed in a coma for a week. But on July 1, doctors pronounced him dead.
His brother, Mohammad Irfan, said to the Hindustan Times: “We had paid Rs 7 lakh [$10,000 USD] to the private hospital earlier and when we told them that we had run out of money, they had declared Furqan dead on Monday.”
Family members and friends of the 20-year-old had gathered at his home and were preparing Last Rites and his burial.
People were crying so hard when the ambulance carrying Furqan’s body arrived. But something incredible happened!
While his body was being taken out of the ambulance, he started moving and showed signs of life.
“When we took the body home, a family member noticed that he was breathing,” Irfan shared. “Others standing there also saw limb movement. We then rushed him to RML hospital immediately where doctors put him on oxygen support.”
Reports said that the family was traumatized by the entire situation. There are numerous questions in their minds that raise concerns about the ethical conduct of the doctors in the hospital.
Dr. Narendra Agarwal, chief medical officer of Lucknow, said to The Times of India: “We have taken cognizance of the incident and the matter will be thoroughly probed.”
Furqan is now being cared for. Dr. Ashok Nirala from The Ram Manohar Lohia hospital said that he is “in critical condition but definitely not brain dead.”
“He has pulse, blood pressure and his reflexes are working,” the doctor said. “He has been put on ventilator support.”
