A bride has gone viral after delivering a tear-jerking speech to her groom’s son during her wedding ceremony.
30-year-old Vanessa Lynch from Minnesota managed to take her wedding guests by surprise as she moved away from the groom, Craig, to address his young son and promise to love him as if he were her own son.
After hearing the vows his stepmother had made, 9-year-old Henry broke into tears and rushed to give his new mom a big hug.
“Henry, I know I wasn’t there the day you came into the world. I wasn’t there for your first steps or your first words,” Vanessa said as Henry fought back his tears.
“But I promise I will be there for many more of your firsts. I promise to love you as if you were my own, and lastly I promise I will be the best wife for your dad, and I promise to be the best stepmum I can be for you.”
Following the emotional reading of vows, the bride embraced the young boy who appeared overwhelmed by his mom’s words.
The emotional moment was caught on camera and has since gone viral.
“I wanted Henry to know that I wasn’t just going to be a woman his dad was married to. I was nervous at first, just because I didn’t know how Henry would react,” Vanessa admitted after the ceremony.
“I didn’t want to put him on the spot in front of everyone because he is shy and gets nervous in front of people.
“But something felt right, so when I was done with Craig’s vows, I motioned for Craig to scoot over so I could see Henry. That’s when the tears started flowing, when I looked at Henry in that moment.”
Though she had her doubts about making vows to her stepson, Vanessa was reassured she did the right thing by no other than the 9-year-old who told her that her words meant a lot to him after the ceremony.
“I’m glad I decided to do it because Henry told me that they meant a lot to him and that he feels even closer to me than before,” she concluded.
