A mother has revealed that she was left heartbroken after her husband did not do anything nice for her birthday because he was ‘too busy’.
The pregnant mom took to Mumsnet and asked fellow parents if she was being unreasonable about the situation.
“I am 39+2 weeks pregnant. My husband and I have had a rough ride recently due to slow baby growth, lots of scans, our stressful jobs, moving house and a five-year-old daughter,” she wrote.
The mom said that she and her husband argued about many things but they were trying to work things out.
“However, it’s my birthday tomorrow. We have friends coming over at 1pm and an engagement party to attend (not ours) tomorrow evening at 7pm. We also have an electrician appointment at 10am,” she continued.
“I asked my husband if he had anything planned for my birthday (like a nice breakfast or had he bought a cake as our daughter keeps pestering about it). He said no as we’re too busy with other things and ‘no time’ to do anything nice for my birthday. Fair enough.”
The heartbroken wife then said that if it had been her, she would’ve organized breakfast, a cake or lunch with the friends who were vising them.
“He clearly doesn’t think like that. I can accept that,” she said.
The mom also said that her husband got her two books for $2 and a bracelet from a charity shop “when I’ve never worn a bracelet in the whole time we’ve been together.”
“Am I being unreasonable to be as hurt as I am? I have genuinely sat and cried about this,” she added.
Her post has sparked a lengthy debate, with one fellow parent commenting: “Nah that’s s***. Really s***. As you say, it’s the lack of thought. When you’ve gone through such a rubbish time he should be making more effort not less.”
Another said: “He should be making an effort to celebrate the day with her. I’d be crying over it too.”
