A newfound parent has opened up about the birth of his daughter and revealed how his mother-in-law held his baby before him.

As the young man explained in his Reddit post, his mother-in-law was with him and his wife in the hospital when their first baby was born.

“My mother-in-law is the type to love unconditionally to the highest degree and I love and respect her for that. As part of our child birthing experience, my wife had her and me in the delivery room together,” he wrote.

“My wife fought hard during the entire process with me and her mother motivating her, as I held her hand cheering her on, I witnessed the moment of my daughter’s birth!”

Not everything, however, went as the young father imagined. As he added, he was left extremely upset when his mother-in-law moved in to hold his baby before him.

“After cutting the umbilical cord, the nurse placed her onto her mother’s chest and after the nurses wiped our new child down and had her swaddled and ready to be held, my mother-in-law then reached out and grabbed her before I had a chance to,” he added.

“After a moment of realization, she then handed her over to me. I’m having a hard time getting over this. And I can’t bring myself to tell anyone I know because quite frankly it’s embarrassing for me in a way I suppose.”

After the story went viral on Reddit, people were quick to encourage the father to move on instead of focusing on the small incident.

“It’s beyond weird that she was in the delivery room and how she did that and the nurse handed her the baby! But when I gave birth I was probably like the 5th person to hold her after the nurses and doctors. It doesn’t matter. What matters is the bond you make after that,” someone suggested.

“I didn’t get to hold my firstborn for 3 days after he was born because we were both medically fragile. My husband held him, fed him and bathed him before me. He just turned 18 and our bond is strong. I am sorry this happened to you, but you sound like a great father!” another said.
