After getting hospitalized, the mother’s condition continued to worsen until she reached the point she was forced to undergo an emergency C-section two months before her due date.

As Ward admitted, the last thing she remembers was arriving into the Covid ward. After that, everything went blank until the moment she opened her eyes seven weeks later and discovered she had given birth to a baby girl named Hope while she was out.

“I opened my eyes to see Hope on the bed with me, but I couldn’t move any part of my body,” Laura said.

“I was just lying in bed at first and not able to move at all. I tried really hard to lift my arms but I just couldn’t. It was frustrating because I couldn’t speak, but because I couldn’t move my arms or hands, I wasn’t able to write anything down that I wanted to say either.

“I had to learn to feed myself, brush my teeth, all the things you learn as a toddler, it’s like learning everything all over again.”

Fortunately, the young mom slowly began taking back control of her body and baby Hope continued to thrive even though she was born more than two months early.

As the proud mother has since revealed, her partner, John Leece, took care of their family and chatted with her via Zoom on a regular basis while she was in a coma. He also waited for her to wake up so that they could name their baby girl together.

“My family were obviously panicking. The doctors and nurses clearly thought it’s not looking good,” Ward added.

“John has managed to keep everyone upbeat about it though. He was telling them ‘she’s not giving up and neither are we’ and ‘let’s keep positive, we’re not going to lose her, she’s going to be fine.’”

Following her recovery, Laura hopes to spend more time with her family and return to her teaching job eventually.
