A bride-to-be has banned her father’s girlfriend from her wedding after she saw the dress she was planning to wear for the celebration.
The woman took to Reddit and explained that her dad’s new partner shared an Instagram photo of the dress, which was an ‘off-white silk slip dress’ that looked similar to the white gown she had chosen.
“I just happened to be scrolling on Instagram, where I see my dad’s girlfriend had posted a picture of what she was planning to wear for the wedding. I was livid,” she wrote.
“It’s literally an off-white silk slip dress and matching blazer. There’s no mistaking the color since she took it straight from the website itself,” the bride-to-be continued.
“I texted my dad immediately as well and asked about the post and questioned if it was, in fact, the color she had posted, since when I went to the website they had it in different colors as well.
“She then got in touch and told me she had taken down the post because ‘she wanted it to be a surprise for my dad’. And that the color was supposedly ‘beige’, as she put it.
“I sent a message back to her saying that I am uncomfortable with her wearing a dress so similar in color to mine and have asked her not to wear it, she has not replied to me.”
The woman went on: “What I find kind of ironic is she had previously asked if she could get a dress the same color as my bridesmaids, and I had asked her to try and avoid that even if possible.
“So it baffles me why she would think it’s okay to wear the same color as the bride.
“I’m putting my foot down on this. I’ve already got people saying that if she shows up in it, they will turn her away on my behalf. I hate being rude and I don’t want to come across as a bridezilla or anything but I think I’m justified in the way I’m feeling.”
Reddit users flocked to the comments section and pointed out that guests should not wear white or similar colors to a wedding.
“The only person that should be wearing white at a wedding is the bride. She either chooses a different dress or she skips the wedding. That day isn’t about her,” one person wrote.
“Everyone knows that you don’t wear white/colors close to white to a wedding when you aren’t the bride,” another said.
