A woman who became a grandmother at the age of 30 has spoken out to share her experience.
Kelly Healey is a mother-of-five from the UK who became a grandmother at the age of 30 and secured the title of Britain’s youngest nan back in 2018.
Healey, who gave birth when she was 16, was just 30 when she became a grandmother after her teenage daughter Skye gave birth at the age of just 14.
While the grandma admitted it “doesn’t feel right being a granny,” she said she offered nothing but support and love to her daughter after finding out she became pregnant at such an early age.
“I never expected to find out I would become a nan while still in my 20s. But there was no point in yelling at Skye about contraception and safe s*x. What was done was done,” Kelly told The Sun.
“All I could do was offer love and support. As a mum you just deal with these things.
“I act like I’m in my early 20s, so it doesn’t feel right to be a granny. My friends think it’s hilarious I’ve got a grandson. He’s always getting mistaken for my son.”
Meanwhile, Skye revealed how she was left in shock after discovering she was already 36 weeks pregnant when she took a test back in 2018.
“I was stunned. I had a secret feeling I might be pregnant which is why I’d suggested the test. The dad is a local lad around my own age,” the teenager, who is now 17, recalled.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was potentially days off becoming a mum. Just weeks earlier I had been doing PE and climbing up and down hills.”
She added: “Of course, finding out I was pregnant so late meant abortion wasn’t an option.point 347 |
