Seventy-four-year-old Helen Mirren said that fans have ‘flattered’ her by comparing the Triple Crown of Acting winner to the 46-year-old girlfriend of Keanu Reeves.
Keanu, who has always remained extremely secretive about his private life, took his long-time girlfriend Alexandra Grant to LACMA Art and Film Gala 2019, held in Los Angeles on Saturday.
After seeing the Hollywood nice guy holding hands with his girlfriend, the excited fans couldn’t stop themselves from taking it to social media.
The thing that turned the incident more tizzy was that people mistook Keanu’s girlfriend for 74-year-old Oscar-winner Helen Mirren as they both are unbelievably similar in facial features.
At the recent New York premiere of her latest movie The Good Liar, Helen reacted cheerfully to the people’s misconception.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she said: “I saw that [the comparisons]. That was very flattering on me, you know, because she’s obviously lovely.”
Helen and Keanu have long been good friends. They get to know each other after the megastar acted in 1997 thriller, The Devil’s Advocate, directed by Helen’s husband Taylor Hackford.
“I do know Keanu very well,” said Helen. “He did a film with my husband and he is just the most adorable, lovely person.
“So she’s a lucky girl and I’m sure that he’s a lucky boy.”
Alexandra is a graduate of California College of Arts and is considered to have the qualities which many women in Hollywood lack, which are spirituality, sensitivity and kindness.
And she has remained an influential presence for Keanu, as she’s the one who made the A-lister speak about his prior heart-breaking relationship with Jennifer Syme.
Syme and Keanu’s daughter was born dead in 1999 after which both parted their ways with each other.
The incident turned more heart-wrenching for Keanu after Syme died at the age of just 28 years in a road accident in 2001.
According to celebrity magazine Life & Style Weekly, Keanu’s new girlfriend proved constant support for him.
Speaking of the pair, a source said: “She’s one of the few people who’s managed to get Keanu to open up about his emotions and past.”
Another source added: “Some say she’s not only stolen his heart but she’s also saved him.”
“He was in such a dark place for so long, but Alexandra’s positive outlook and support have played a huge part in helping him turn his life around,” said yet another source.
“She is kind, warm and spiritual,” a friend said of the artist. “And she is a great communicator.”
Alexandra was also seen accompanying Keanu when he was traveling to promote John Wick 3.
