Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, people are increasingly forced to stay at home if they know what’s good for them.
But that’s also a recipe for cabin fever. Introverts will have a better time of it but extended isolation can get to anyone.
As the saying goes, an idle mind is the devil’s playground although in this case, it got some fans thinking about zombies.
One of the most iconic TV posters is that of AMC’s The Walking Dead which shows Rick riding on a horse, bags full of weapons, as he traverses an empty Atlanta freeway with the opposite lane filled with burned-out vehicles.
A few fans tried to recreate this picture and thanks to the coronavirus scare, they were provided with a rare opportunity to do so. Normally, these roads leading into and out of Atlanta would be crammed with traffic.
But with people being forced to stay at home, these typically busy streets were deserted. A Twitter user named “The Mad Engineer” took advantage of this with him and his buddy recreating the iconic poster shot mentioned earlier.
While they didn’t actually get a horse down there, they did capture the bleakness of the deserted highway.
He tweeted: “So I asked my old college mate, that lives in Atlanta, to try and reproduce this iconic promo photo from s1.
“With there being no Atlanta traffic due to the pandemic, he went to Jackson St. Bridge and took this for me today.
“Creepy.”
And if you’re currently not following the show, it’s already in the middle of its tenth season.
The Walking Dead is an adaptation of the graphic novel by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard.
The series follows a sheriff named Rick Grimes who comes out of a coma in the middle of a gutted hospital. Through his eyes, we find out that the world has been overrun by zombies and those few remaining humans are doing all it takes to survive the zombies…and other humans.
It was an instant hit when it first came out in 2010 but its popularity has been declining over the past few seasons especially with the departure of several key characters, Rick Grimes himself being one of them.
